 Filemaker questions

A couple questions. Any help would be very appreciated:

1) I create a template version of a database that has relationship with
another template version of the database. We need multiple databases -- we
are a film production company and use one database per episode -- it would
be too big and unwieldy and unmanageable if we tried to put all the episodes
in one database. When we copy or save a copy of the template to create a new
database, all relationship fields have to be updated and changed to the new
file names by hand. Is there anyway that filemaker can change the links on
it's own? Is there anyway to automate the changes?

2) I have a regular export that I want to do weekly but each time I go into
the export field, I have to retag which fields are to be exported. Is there
anyway to save export groups? When writing a script to uses export, is there
anyway to bind or program an export to that script? Like with a sort or
find?

Thanks for the help,

James

This "separate database system for each episode" sounds like a real bad
idea, but I guess it depends on your need.

Only the FileMaker Developer 5 product includes a developer tool that helps
you rename files in a database system in such a way that all links are
maintained. Worth looking into.

To save an export, just spec an export that you want, export it, then create
a Script and add the export script step. Specify (hard code) the destination
file, if you like, and then save the script. Now whenever you run the script
it'll retain that export order. if you ever want to change the export
order/destination file, redo an export, go into the script and exit it (by
clicking OK, not cancel), and you'll get a dialog asking if you want to
replace the export order in which case you say YES.

1) The best way to achive this type of task is to make sure each record in
each file carries an Episode ID. When required export all the data into
another set of files and delete the data in your live file. Always check the
archive file before deleting your data.

2) the export script step remebers the current export in the same way as a
find script step. Perform the export then create a script with the export
step and check the restore export order box.
