 Disappointment about FileMaker 5.5

Well, I waited with bated breath for 5.5, but alas, it doesn't do the few
things that I was _really_ waiting for.

1. Why didn't FileMaker add menu control? I would really like to be able
to create custom menus for standalone database apps; it's not so much
that I need to use menu commands, but the finished product would look
more polished and be easier for clients.

2. Script activation from field data changes... I get this from Oazium
Events, which does an excellent job, but again, this should be in
FileMaker by this point.

Those were the 2 I was most anxious for...

I agree - I don't want my customers to see greyed out menus that they
will never use.

I have to respectfully disagree here - sort of. While it'd be nice to
have that feature built in, the functionality is available from a third
party.

I'd rather FileMaker first focus on functionality that is not provided
by plug-in developers. I'm really happy to see record-level security
included, and I anxiously await true multi-threading, menu customization
you mentioned, updated OS-native UI elements (aquafied scroll bars,
buttons, checkboxes and radio buttons).

Yep - I agree don't know if the upgrade cost is worth the effort - might
wait till 6.0 - I think most others will also.
