I'm serving several FMPro 5 databases on the web running FMPro 5 Unlimited
on a dedicated Win2k workstation machine. From time to time the web service
just stops working for one or more of the db's and delivers a Database Not
Open error message instead. This generally impacts only one of the active
databases, while the others continue to run correctly. When I check that db,
however, everything seems to be just fine in the FMPro client, I can search
or sort normally, speed is fine, but nothing I do seems to correct the
problem with the web service. The only fix is to close and then reopen the
problematic database - that always works. All the other databases remain
open and continue to work correctly throughout.
Sometimes the problem seems to occur when a web visitor runs a search that
produces zero hits - but not always. The db's range in size from 16,000
records (35Mb) down to 1600 records (10 Mb). When they're working correctly,
and you run a search on a fully indexed field, results are virtually
instantaneous.
I'm completely stumped as to why this is happening, and haven't seen
anything like it mentioned here or on any FM site. If it weren't for this
problem FM would be gold for me.
Version/architecture info: I am currently hosting these dbs on a separate
Win 2k Server machine running FMPro 5 Server - staff access the db's via
TCP/IP access using FMPro 5 clients, as does the FMPro 5 Unlimited web
server client. But I get the same problem even running a local copy of the
db's on the web server machine. I also used to get it using FMPro 4.0/4.1,
with or without hosting via FMPro 3.0 Server. Same with Win2k vs NT 4.0 -
I've had the same problem with both. I
I'm also currently using a default 'no password' password that limits access
to browse only - staff force open the password form at File Open using
ctrl-shift and then enter a full-access password at that point - the web
server client copy is opened the same way. But this problem also predates
our use of that system!
At present all web service is search and display only - no edits or new
record adds. The web pages were created initially using Home Page 3.0, but
have been extensibly customized - there are multiple web versions running
off of one or two of the databases.
Any ideas????
Thanks,
