 Hosts file for saving IP addresses of remote servers

I am trying to set up FMP4.1 client running on a Windows 98 computer to
connect to a remote Filemaker server over the Internet.  Everything
works fine except that when I check the box to save the IP address, I
receive an error message saying that the Hosts file cannot be found.

After looking around in the FMP Help for awhile, I found several
references that make me think that it is a text file stored somewhere in
the Filemaker program directory.  Within that directory is a \SYSTEM
subdirectory which contains a file names fmhosts.txt which looks like
the correct file based upon the comments in the file.  I've tried moving
the file out to the same directory as the FileMaker Pro.exe, but that
brought no joy.  I've also tried renaming it host.txt, hosts.txt,
Host.txt, Hosts.txt, host, Host and putting it in both locations.  No
luck there either.

Someone please tell me the correct filename and location for this file,
so that I can save the IP address and make it easy for a user to connect
to the remote server.

Thanks,
-Landy

 Hosts file for saving IP addresses of remote servers

There is a thread on this:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=fmhosts.txt++group:comp.databases.f...
r&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&newwindow=1&safe=off&selm=3D77E8DF.8090506%40bmw.yeh&rn
um=1

fmhosts.txt is supposed to be the name of the file and may be in different
locations depending on the OS. Do a search for "fmhosts"

I checked out the link and did some additional searches on Google as
well.  Everything points to a file names fmhosts.txt or FMHosts.txt
which is located in the SYSTEM directory in the FileMake Pro directory
of the Program Files directory.  I have such a file and when I edit it
with NotePad, the IPs do not show up in the list of known hosts in
FileMaker.  For some reason FileMaker Pro 4.1 just sin't looking here on
2 different PC installs that I have checked.  One is Win98 and the other
Win2000.

Is there a preferenced setting or .INI file that I might need to change
to point here?
