 Limited Text field index length??
I am relating two files using a text field. IT seems that everything beyond
the 16th or so character in the text field is ignored for
indexing/finding/relating etc.
Is this a hard limit?

I seem to recall there being a limit to the number of characters recognized
in each word (could be 16).  If this is a calculated text field where you
are combining several other text fields, add a space between the "words"
and see if this helps.

Unfortunately it is a single text field I am indexing/relating on and the
"word" really is longer than 16 characters. Can you recall where you saw
this limit documented?

I'm sure it was on this newsgroup.  Maybe you can get the answer from
Filemaker directly...or search old archives of this newsgroup (dejanews?).
Sorry I can't be of more help  :-(

I found it in the on-line help. Only the{*filter*}20 characters of a word are
indexed... Oh well, looks like it's back to Access for me...

Try making a new calculation fields which inserts a space every 15 or so
characters and using those fields for the relationship.

Can you turn the 'word' into a number somehow ?  Can you split it
up into many shorter words by putting spaces at regular intervals ?
