HELP: Changing default location of my DB files--how?

greetings,

after launching FileMaker Pro 4.0, when i hit "open," a certain
directory opens up.  i'd like to change this to the directory where i
keep my database files.  how do i do this.

i recently installed Win 98 and since then the directory changed.
before that when i opened, i'd go to C:\Program Files\Claris
Corp\FileMaker Pro which was just fine b/c i made a subfolder there
generically called "databases" and that's where i kept my files.

anyhow, in addition to blaming Win 98, i guess i never learned how to
change this default directory.

i went to the FileMaker website for tech support but the best i could do
was using Program Manager (!!!) to change the working directory. i tried
doing that but it didn't work and geez, i have to back to that Win 3.1
relic to do this?

i'm missing something really obvious, eh? please help me. post or
e-mail. thanks a bunch!

HELP: Changing default location of my DB files--how?

Create a new FMP file. Define no fields and create no records.  Go into
scriptmaker and create a script with an open command (don't tell it what to
open)  and a close command.  It will open the open dialog and wait for your
response and then should close itself.  Place this file in the directory with
your databases.  Go into document preferences  under edit (with the file still
open) and tell it to use the script upon opening.  Create a shortcut to it and
use this to open Filemaker Pro.

I just tried it and it works for me.
