Looking for Filemaker 3 for Macintosh . . Will no one sell it to me???

Hi everyone.

<short version>
I'm looking for a place to buy Filemaker 3 for AppleMac in the preferably in
the UK.

<long version>
For 3 years now I've been using Filemaker 2.1 to run a couple of fairly
simple databases.
The reason for choosing FMP2.1 was 1) I had used it at work and so was happy
with it.  2) Oh yeah it was given away free on a cover disk!
However recently I have had problems with 2.1 as I reinstalled my OS (Win
98) and lost all the Claris Dlls.  I had installed FMP2.1 from the Free
version given away on PCPro a couple of years ago.  Unfortunately the
installer requires a password and I can't remember what it was and their WWW
is no help. . . So. .

A friend gave me his copy of Filemaker 3 as he has long since stopped using
it (yes it is a legal copy, don't worry).  First off, wow, you do not know
how long I have been waiting for Global variables!  :o)
Anyway the problem is this.  The guy I develop the databases for has a Mac
with version 2.1 obviously he needs to upgrade to version 3.  Can I find a
place that will sell it to me?  No way!  Version 5 only!  I can't even get
hold of version 4!  and we don't both want to have to shell out for version
5 at 200 a go!  No chance!  It's just not worth it for what we need the
databases to actually do.

So does anyone know of a place that has old stock that may still have FMP3
for 30 or something similar, there must be some one out there who has a few
left.   Or depending on how much FMP4 is maybe it would be better if we both
got that if it's not too expensive.  I cannot justify spending 400 on two
copies of 5 tho'

Any ideas?  Anyone know an old PC software shop that has a copy?  Preferably
in the UK too.

Many thanks in advance

Matt Casey

[... snip long version ...]

Basically, FM3 is very old. It is unlikely that anyone will have
it in stock as a retail item. People have had some reported success
tracking down old versions through the on-line auction houses. I got
a legal second-hand copy from a Uni department that was upgrading
to (at the time) 4.0. Someone on the newsgroup may also have a
legal second-hand copy you can purchase from them...

Hope this helps to some degree

I suggest contacting FileMaker. I recently contacted them when I discovered
that FileMaker Pro 2.1 was not Y2K compliant. They sent me FileMaker 3.02
for a small shipping and handling charge. Hope this helps.
