Is there a way to do an "or" calculation for a portal.
I have a portal based on three different fields, and I want records to go
into that portal if any of the three records equals a certain value.

Any help?  It's FM4

Thanks.

Hi Jayson -

Please describe exactly how you have based your portal on three different
fields.  Then the group will be better able to help.  This is not a scenario
I'm familiar with.  Also, don't you mean "if any of the three fields equals a
certain value"?

Thanks -
James

Don't forget to remove the obvious spam block when replying.
I advocate making an address book entry and using it!  Thanks!

I have a transaction screen, more or less a notes file.  Everytime one of
the consultants calls a client they put in their transaction, with an action
and result code.
For instance:  Action might equal TC for Telephoned client and the result
then might equal LM for left message.
I'm trying to set up a portal in a planner database so that when the result
= a certain value then it will show the record in the portal.
Now that's not hard but this portal for instance is the appointments for
that day.
So I want it to show records that have a result of "CV" or "EIO" or "APP"
all in the same portal.

Hopefully everyone can follow my mess, and possibly help.

Thanks.

I have had a similar situation and what I did was create a 4th field
that contains for example "OK" if any of the other three fields
contains "OK". This is easy to do with a calculation field. Be sure it
is set to be indexec. Now you can use "OK" in the 4th field to set up
the relationship for the portal to work.

Create a calc field in the related file which returns a number:

If (Field1 = "value" or Field2 = "value" or Field3 = "value", 1, 0)

Then create a number field in the master file which auto enters 1.

You will be able to create a relationship between the files based on the
number field on the left and the calc field on the right.  You can place
each of the original fields in the portal on the basis of this
relationship.

Limitations: you will not be able to create new records through the
portal, since portals auto enter the relevant value in the match field in
the related file and in this case the match field is a calc field that
cannot be modified.
