Status(CurrentPortalRow) not working

 Status(CurrentPortalRow) not working
Group,
I can not get Status(CurrentPortalRow) to work. I've tried it with
only one portal on the layout, two portals, any of several rows
selected, etc. I want it to display as a calculated field. Any hints?
Is the portal row number that results from a correct operation of
the function the same number that you would get within the portal rows

    I'm on FM 3.0v2. (5.0 on order.)

Thanks,

Richard

Is your calculated field set to "unstored" (in the storage options) ?

It should be.

Paul,
No it wasn't. Now it is. That did not help. Thank you for trying. Any
other ideas?

 Status(CurrentPortalRow) not working
I have done some experimenting. My suggestion did help, but not enough
I'm afraid. If you enter the portal row, then force the window to
refresh (moving it so your calculated field is offscreen, then moving it
back, for instance), you will see that it does work, just not
instataneously as we would like it to.

There are a few cases where FM won't "trigger" an update the way we
would like it to, but you may be able to work around this problem.

I find that the "refresh window" step does not work for this purpose.

You could change your calculated field into a global field, then make
all your elements inside the portal be buttons to execute a script which
would set the value of your field to status(currentPortalRow). There may
be other ways to do it, but you get the idea. Very very rarely have I
found something that I wanted to do that I couldn't do if I messed
around enough in FileMaker :)

Sorry I didn't test my other answer before I gave it to you. I tested
the above suggestion, and it works fine.

Not sure if this will help, but try Exit Record/Request.

 Status(CurrentPortalRow) not working
The Status(CurrentPortalRow) function doesn't work exactly as you would think.
Its used within scripts to indicate which row is selected rather than being
used as a display option.  For example "If The Status(CurrentPortalRow)=4 then
beep four time"

I've tried everyway I can think of for the display thing - but its just not a
viable option.

I have a FMPro database w/ 6 layouts showing the same portal. On
layout 1, I use the portal scroll bar to get to the related
records towards the bottom. However, when I switch to other
layouts, I lose my position in the portal. Is there a way of
freezing your position in the portal? Thanks.

As far as Ive reconized, you are right. It doesnt work.
I fixed the position with a script:
When I choose a row, I set a global field "Memo" (with an invisible button)
to remember the number from "Foreign file::Unique number" from that row.
When I go back to that layout I perform a script that pastes the number from
"Memo" into a field "Rownumber", using a relationship "Rownumber" - "Foreign
file::Unique number".

OK?
