 50 Open File Limitation Woes

I have a FM5.0 database on Mac OS 9.2 which spans multiple files.
Lately, when I open a certain file, FM complains of a 50 file limit to
how many files may be open simultaneously.  The thing is, these files
aren't really open.  They are the files that the file I have open has
relationships to (as well as the files that those related files have
relationships to).  When I close the open file, the related files stay
listed on the "Window" menu, even though the master file has been
closed.

So my question is, what is the solution to getting around this
limitation?  Should I be handling file relation in a different way, or
has this limitation been corrected in a newer version of Filemaker?  How
does one circumvent the FM 50 open file limit?  How can files listed on
the "Window" menu be closed without going through them one by one, or
exiting Filemaker altogether.

Thanks for any help you can give.

That means they are really open.

You could make the master file have a script that activates when it is
closed that closes some of the related files that you are speaking of.

I have what I consider to be a giant company-wide filemaker solution,
but even as the developer, I have never hit the 50 file limit (I have 80
files total). Maybe your solution is more file-heavy than it need be?

Via script as discussed above.
