FMP 4.0 List As View??? Help

Is there anyway that I can change the List As View as I change data.
What I mean is, that I am controlling the data flow with a input
number.  For example, I have this field which is just a 10 characters.
Once I type in the number, the number is put into a form.  The form has
other data on it and I only want the the List As View button to just
list the data associated with the number on it.  I go back to enter a
new number for the data input, and the type in a new set of data in the
fields. I get a new record by it is on the same list.  Is there anyway
that I can change the List View so that it will give me a clear list for

the different set of data for the input number?  Can anybody help me
with this.  I am new with the FileMaker Pro 4.0.  If you still don't
understand what I am trying to do, please e-mail me and I will try to
explain it again in a different way.

It sounds as if you shouldn't be on View as List at all.
If you only want the information pertaining to a single record at a time
to show, then you should be on View as Form.
View as Form gives you one record only.
View as List gives you as many records as can fit on the page.
For instance, suppose you had just one field per record.  View as Form
would show just that field on the page, and only for that record.  View
as List would show the records as a list, filling up the page.
Try it and see.
Perhaps what you want is just a new different layout to show your data,
but if you want only one record at a time to show, then View as Form is
what you need.
