User select fields to report on
Hi all

FM5.5Dev - PC - Win2K

Is it possible to set up a script or other so that users can select the
fields they want to be in a report, i.e. the user does the search criteria
they want to report on and they can also select the fields they want printed
in the report.

I know I could come up with all types of scenarios and have a report
template setup for each one and based on each tick box they go to report x,
y, or z - but is there a way this can be done on the fly?

Thanks

Greg

You should start playing with the GetField calc function:

1) Create a global text field called gReportField.
2) Create a calc (unstored, text result) = GetField(gReportField)
3) Now put your global field on a user criteria layout with a pulldown
menu that includes a list of actual field names.

So, if you have a Company field filled in with my company's name, then
you fill the global field in with the word 'Company', the result will be
that the calc field will show the results of "FM Professional
Solutions".

Now imagine a layout with 5 or 10 of these globals across the page, each
with a pulldown of available fields.  The user can then indicate what
fields should be reported in which columns.  And the 5 or 10 calc fields
across the report page will show the correct field content for each
column.
