 editing through portals

i am using fmp4.1

as part of my experimentation, i have created a database of some cds.
the artist, title etc is held in the main db, but tracks are taken from
another db using a portal
[similar to the shopping-cart example included with fm]

i want to be able to edit/create records through a browser, and i have no
trouble sorting it out for the artist/title bits, but is it possible to edit
the tracks held in a separated db?

i set up the tracks part of my form like:

[FMP-portal:cdtracks]
<input type="text" name="tracks" value="[FMP-field:cdtracks::title"><br>
[/FMP-portal]

where cdtracks is the db with the tracks, title is the track title.
the realtionship is defined through the records id field.

the above works fine and displays a track list.

but it will not edit the track names in the same way that i edit fields in
the main db.

is there a solution to this? i would guess i have to put something in the
name that tells fm to edit through the portal, not try and edit the main db
which is what it seems to be doing.

any help much appreciated

 editing through portals

Hi,

I also have the same requirement as Colin - entering data into a portal from
a web front-end.

Is this possible within the one form?

An alternative I'm going to try is to make multiple forms on the same page
entering the data directly into each of the separate databases and using a
client side script to do the multiple submits - which is all a bit clunky
(assuming it will work...), surely there is a CDML command to allow entering
data into a portal.

Any of you guru's know an answer?

Put a button in the layout of your CD list portal.
Make the button go to the layout on your CD list db
that has _another_ relation, this time to the list of items on the
selected CD.

Edit away.
