 High speed dox-matrix printing bug

Hi all:

Got a strange problem I'm hoping someone might help with.

Got an application in FileMaker, standard names and addresses stuff.
Want to print mailing labels on dot-matrix printer.  It's an old Citizen
MSP50 printer with a tractor feed and contious labels.

Here's the problem:

With a regular (ie, Windows-appropriate) printer driver, the printer
prints in nice, pretty, bitmapped fonts, slow as molasses.

We change to the generic/text Win95 print driver, and the printer prints
really fast in it's default font, but I get just garbage for content.
It's like FileMaker just starts shoving stuff out the printer port.  I
preview my labels, and there's not addresses in the Washington state
area for 2 or 3 pages, but when I print this way, I get Washington
addresses on the first page.  Data is totally corrupt and random.

Any ideas on what's happening?  I may have missed some kind of crucial
detail here...let me know what else you need to know.

Thanks very much in advance.
