how share images in a filemaker network

hi,
this is my problem:
I have a 2000 records filemaker archive shared in a TCP/IP windows network.
Images are linked to the original jpg file. I have no problem to see images
in the host computer but it's impossible to see these images in the other
computers (in the field appears: impossible to find the linked file).
What can I do? I tried to insert images not linked or copy these as an OLE
object, every thing is ok but after a few images (25) the dimension of the
FMP file was huge (5mb instead of 1mb).
Note that the original jpg file has a 20kb average dimension and hardly are
bigger than 100k.
Hope that someone can help me!
thank you

Glenda

If you have each image uniquely named, you can create a script to Open URL
and reference a calc field in your file that contains the "address" of the
image file.

This will cause the image to be opened by whatever app has been associated
with jpgs!

Good luck!

If you know the IP address of the machine that the images are stored on set
the URL through a calculation such as (assuming that Z drive contained the
image files

Field:  URL_add (Calculation) (Result - Text)

"file:///Z/images/" & ImageID & ".jpg"

The script would look like

Open URL [No dialog, URL-add]

Look at the examples in the FileMaker Help Index for Open URL.

I assume that the images are stored in files on your own hard disk.

What's happening is this: Client computer receives a pointer to the
image.  The pointer says something like
'C:\documents\database\images\fred.jpg'.  But the client computer
looks for the image on its /own/ 'C:' disk, not the hard disk of the
FMP server.

To make the pointers work you have to store the images on a file
server ... one which is addressed identically (perhaps as drive 'F:')
from all machines using the database.

Hi

We use a TCP/IP windows network also. We work with more than 4.000 images
and all of them can be seen from all the computers. We insert the images by
import image command. The files are hosted by FileMaker Server 3.0.

When a image is imported in filemaker, all the computers can see the image.

Maybe you dont use FileMaker Server?
