 Field values in text object
Using FMPro 6 (Mac)

I have just discovered that if a place a text item on a layout, the
content being a field name enclosed in double angle brackets (e.g.,
<<field name>>), then the value of that field is displayed when in
Browse.

I like this, but I cannot find anywhere in Help that describes it. Is
there a name for it?

I just jumped from v3 to v6. What version did it start in? Could I do it
in 3 but didn't know it?

Its called a "Merge Field" and is available in layout mode from the inset
menu. I do believe that it has always been available just not from a menu.

That explains it.

I had never investigated merge fields before.

It used to be under the Edit Menu in the "Paste Special" submenu or
somewhere like that in earlier versions.
