Running both FileMaker and FileMaker server on the same machine is possible
but it will be much slower than on separate CPU. You can do it, but my
advice is : you have to maintain FM Server on foreground, using "Keep it
Up". Be aware that this configuration is not recommended, and not very
stable, depending on the size and the number of databases your have.

Multihoming does not matter in this situation because FileMaker client and
FileMaker server use different ports IP, and you can configure the Port IP
of Web Companion. (default port is 591, but if no http server is running on
the same IP, use the "friendly proxy" port 80)
