Seems to me you're stuck, CDs being CDs. Any change at ALL cannot be
written to a regular CD by any means.

You could consider having FM create or copy a SMALL DB holding only the
relevant "Picked" info onto the user's hard disk, and making changes
there. Keep most of the large DB on the CD, but write the variable info
to the user's machine.

don't know how that would work with paths and all, but it might be worth
trying. :)
