 hosting for filemaker?
Hello,

I am looking for a company that offers virtual servers with fmp. I wish
to publish sites linked to fmp databases and the only solution I have
come up with so far is to either have my own server or to rent a
dedicated server. Both of these options are far too expensive for me.
What I really need is something around the range of $30-$50 per month
running fmp (preferably a NT system). Can anyone suggest anything?

Thanks

Dave

Find another line of work.  You don't want to work with a company that would
offer services so cheaply.  I can recomend World Wide Host who have a good
package that is $950.00 per year.

Well, I have a small FMP db (750 K, growing very slowly) running for purely
private purposes but a public cause, so there is no critical functioning if
things break down  which they never did so far in my case. I built my own
telecommander (an 11 K FMP db with 2 single line scripts and no records)
into it (I drive it through some simple HTML/CDML which I built myself) and
can therefore edit and delete records as well as make a copy of the db to
download it via ftp in order to have a local copy refreshed every week or
so. I can even shut down and open the db from a distance. I have used this
facility now for 2.5 years and I pay USD 12.50 per month - isn't that a nice
price? So why don't you try www.daxis.nl (Mr. De Keyzer)? ( I am no
shareholder there!!!). They run NT. You probably would not want to run en
e-commerce there, but for general information to the public it's just great.

I my view 90 % of the hosting services are rip-offers, and if you walk
through the list that FMI offers, it's just sad to see how badly the firms
there present their hosting, prices etc., just very sad and unprofessional
in many cases.
