 Permanent Sorting? Possible?

Hi Everybody!

I'm wondering if it's possible to permanently sort without having to save
it sorted then rename, blah blah blah.....

Thanks for any help!

 Permanent Sorting? Possible?

Not sure what "blah blah blah..." means, but when I sort a database and
then close it, it's still sorted the same when I open it the next time.  So
it's permanent until I sort again.  If that's not what you need, a few more
details might help.

 Permanent Sorting? Possible?
As far as I know there is no way to keep a FileMaker Pro database
permanently sorted (wish there was) but there are some methods that help
keep it sorted (each has its ups and downs):

Sorting the database then saving the settings in a sort script.

Using the sort script as a subscript of any script that tends to unsort
the database (warning: if there are large numbers of records, this will
take a bit of time so only use this if sorting is critical to function,
otherwise just add a button that allows users to chose when to sort).

Adding the sort script as a subscript to the opening script.

Using a portal in a self join relationship: portals always remain sorted
according to the sort settings that are made when the relationship is set
up.

If the records of a database are woefully out of order, you can clone the
database, sort the records in the original file and import them into the
clone - they will be imported in the same sort order and will remain in
that order when the database is unsorted.
