Read data from Oracle database - Relational Connect ?

Hello,

Our current requirement is to read data from Oracle database.

At the moment, when we invoke a program in AS/400, it needs to be able
to open a connection to an Oracle database in an HP box, pass an SQL
stmt and retrieve the result, join the data with the ones in DB2/400,
and generate a report.

Is DB2 Relational Connect the right product to go with ? Do we need to
modify
their app in AS/400 to achieve the above ?

Yeah, one more thing, I was told DB2 Connect might be
needed in this case in order to access to DB2/400. Is DB2 Connect
needed in
this case ?

Hi, RC(relational connect) works only with UDB on Linux, Windows, Unix.(LUW)
What you want can easily be achieved using DB2 RC, but the RC has to be
installed on an LUW environment. Then you can access AS/400, Oracle and
fetch the results onto the LUW DB2 server.

What version of UDB do you have? If its v7, you need RC. If its v8,
federated function (including Oracle/AS400 wrappers) is included in UDB
Let me know if you need more information,
Thanks

I think the follow on product to DB2 Relational Connect is DB2
Information Integrator (in beta now).
AFAIK, only IBM relational DBMS targets are part of DB2 UDB (DB2 across
the board and Informix).
Blair can probably solves this packaging puzzle :-)

Here we go:

For both V7 and V8, the "Federated Functionality" is included with DB2 UDB
... i.e. the "technology" for Federated access is included within DB2 UDB.
However, the Federated technology is only capable of access to other DB2
data sources and Informix data sources. If you require Federated access to
any other data source (Oracle, Sybase, SQL Server, etc.), you must purchase
Relational Connect (for V7) or it's follow-on DB2II (for V8). V7's RC is
limited to r/o access. DB2II will be full r/w.

If V7, then
