db2 sever - visual basic client question

I have a db2 database on an intranet networked drive which is the K:
drive. I have a Visual Basic application that connects to the db2
database. I need to install the VB application on multiple client
machines.

Question 1: The question is does each client machine need to have a
client version of DB2 installed? Or, since DB2 exists on the networked
drive, will it be possible to connect to the server from different
client machines without having to install DB2 on each client machine?

Question 2: Also, if installed on each client machine,  will each
client installation of db2 use up memory and other resources on each
client computer?

Question 3: If java applet is used instead of visual basic can this
problem be solved?

Thank you very much for any help with this -- I have been trying to
figure out how best to set up a client-server network for a while now!

db2 sever - visual basic client question

Question 1: Yes. The "thick" client components must be installed on each
local machine to.  (b) It *is* possible to share the components (say
from "K", *but* every box still needs it's registry and other aspects
updated.  i.e: Install to "K" on each machine.

Question 2: Yes. Just like any other Wintel application.

Question 3: Yes. The difference is that the client connection code is
downloaded into the browser's temporary work area and accessed by the
Java VM.  This will still require disk space (minimal) and run-time
memory, however since it's automatic (db2java.zip), no client setup
is required.

Advice: Both VB and Java Applets give you feature-rich client
capabilities, much more so than regular HTML.  If you can get away
without the bells and whistles of a client app, look into server-side
Java (or, loathe though I am to say it.. .NET)
