 DB2 Connect and MTS
Has anyone had success (or failures) integrating DB2 Connect with Microsoft
Transaction Server? I had heard some rumblings that there were some major
problems with this architecture. We would like to run DB2 Connect on a WIN2K
server that interfaces to DB2 for OS/390 v6.1.

Any suggestions or caveats would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul

Success.

Suggestions: Just follow the documentation (sorry, but it just worked like
it was supposed to).

Under NT, recommend installing SP6a, under W2K SP1 is probably a good idea.
You said W2K.

Also, you must use the DB2 Connect ODBC driver with transactional
capabilities of
MTS/DTC. The IBM OLE DB provider does not support MS DTC transactional
capabilities yet.

I would also suggest using MDAC 2.6 and applying the hotfix referenced
by the following Microsoft Tech note:

FYI...I'm writing a Tech note for this to summarise.

Another thing in your case, ensure you use DB2 Connect V7 fixpack 1 or
greater in conjunction with DB2 for OS/390 V6 with the following APAR fixes
applied:

 PQ39416

 PQ28487

 PQ27022

 PQ32387

The above enhancements allow for distributed COM objects to work on the same
transaction. Previous to this, it was required for COM objects to exist on
the same
machine and share a common connection to DB2 OS/390.

Paul, this fix is for NT4 only, and is incorporated in SP6a. SP6a also fixes
a bunch of other issues.
