DB2 UDB PE for Linux 7.2 install problems (segfaults)

Hi,

I am a newbie to DB2 and had some problems installing the PE for Linux
on a freshly installed SuSE 8.0 Professional. I tried to install
_everything_ from the CD image using db2setup.

Problems:
- db2setup calls db2ins at line 239. db2ins segfaults when creating an
instance. The user db2inst1 and db2fenc1 are created and symlinks to
/usr/IBMdb2 are set.

- db2cc complains about missing /home/db2inst1/sqllib/cc and missing
jre, installed is JRE 1.3.1-275 from Sun. Replacing "jre" with "java"
complains about the nonvalid option -nojit, ommiting -nojit leads to an
exception:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: CC

Installing the JDK 1.1.8 from the DB2 CD and reassigning the JAVA_HOME
and then running the original db2cc leads to a segfault.

Besides this the DB2 UDB runs.

Any help is appreciated

Bernd

DB2 UDB PE for Linux 7.2 install problems (segfaults)

Hi Bernd,

I can help with the db2setup problem. Add the following line to the end of
the /etc/services file:
db2cdb2inst1            50000/tcp

Then run "/usr/IBMdb2/V7.1/instance/db2iupdt db2inst1"

Thanks, that helped me a lot, as after the db2iupdt the control center
also works (with JRE 1.3 and substituting jre with java in db2cc).

Bernd,

SUSE 8 Prof breaks the backward compatibility of the ncurses module in some
areas. We are just evaluating the issue. A quick work around is the use of
db2_install instead which is "just" installing the product and does not
create instance or admin server. The different ncurses versions are just
really ugly but out of our reach.

You were on the right path already with using 1.1.8 for JDK. Just call db2cc
with a dedicated portnumber, e.g. db2cc 9988 and start the db2jstrt
accordingly with a port and you are fine. Again you hit here an
incompatibility we are evaluating.
