 DB2 backup problems (OS/2)

I have some problems with DB2 V6.1.0 on OS/2 Warp Server for e-business
with JFS. The applied fixes are WRG21164 and JFSFIX1.

Both problems occured, when my backup image size exceeded 2 GB.

1) The backup image grows until a size of about 4 MB and then stops
growing. Nothing more happens then. I can see no lock in the snapshot
info. I can't even stop the backup with force application (nnn), only
force application all works, but then I restart the database with
db2stop/db2start. Only after rebooting these errors diappear.

2) I get I/O error 22. This is no JFS problem, because I can create
such a big file manually. Is this a DB2 bug?

 DB2 backup problems (OS/2)

Helmut, it sounds like what you're experiencing is caused by a JFS APAR
(PJ26736) that was opened after JFSFIX1.  The JFS problem shows up with
DB2 because a database backup with the default parameters always
performs large (4MB) I/O.  The problem is with JFS acquiring locks for
the user buffer and eventually causing the kernel to return ERROR_BUSY.

I'm not sure if that fix is available to the public yet, but you'll
probably need to contact OS/2 support.

What you might try in the mean time is to reduce the buffer size used
for the DB2 backups.  You'll probably have more success with something
like:

        "backup db <alias> buffer 64"

Hope that helps.
