db2 personal edition - need write permission to c:

db2 personal edition - need write permission to c:
I am trying to install DB2 personal edition on to 100+ systems in labs
running win2000 for student use.

As a standard unprivileged user, it is not possible to use the "Command
Center" - when trying to execute some command (such as "connect to sample"),
an attempt is made to write a file to the top folder in c:, and unprivileged
users are denied write to c: authority under win2000.

Any ideas for getting round this problem?

You haven't said what file it is looking for, so I'll assume you don't know.

In which case, I'm free to guess.

If your SQLLIB is on drive "C:", then I suspect it is trying to update the
"sqllib\db2clp.dat" file.  This binary file is where DB2 stores the information
regarding which command applications are CLP-enabled.

If the problem is granting access specifically to drive "C:", then you could
install DB2 on drive "D:", or any other drive that you are willing to make
writeable.

There may be other solutions, that's just the one that jumps to mind.

What about
TEMP
DB2TEMP

What about using the Windows admin utility that
audits/traces access to  files?
Check  the 'Denied' access  the  user gets.
