 Difference between DB2 UDB 7.2 and DB2/400
Hi,

I am new to DB2. From the documentation I read that there are some versions of DB2 :
- DB2 UDB ver 7.2 for Windows, Unix, Linux, OS/2
- DB2 UDB for iSeries (DB2/400)
- DB2 UDB for OS/390

I have questions :

1) Besides that that they run on different machine / platform, what is other
   difference between them.

2) Can an Application (SQL Stored Procedure and triggers ) run on all those
three DB2 version without modification ?

Thanks for any info,
Krist.

Since these three codebases have different priorities on features due to
different customer sets, not all features are supported at the same time
on all platforms.
Features that are supported on all platforms are supported in the same
way.

So, as long as you code against the common features you're quite safe.

Cheers
Serge

Hi,
Where can I find information about 'common features' and 'uncommon
features' between those three DB2 version ?

Thanks,
Krist

 Difference between DB2 UDB 7.2 and DB2/400
Hi,

As I know, DB2/400 comes in one package with the OS/400.

Is DB2/400 the only one in the 'DB2 Family' that comes 'free of charge' ?
Is there any other version DB2 that is also integrated with the OS ?

Thanks for the info,
Krist

I believe it's the only DB2 with those attributes.

Although DB2 UDB is integrated into OS/400, your "free of charge" statement
is (perhaps) slightly misleading.  The "up front" cost of iSeries (AS/400)
hardware + OS/400 for a given workload/application may be higher than for
alternative platforms such as Windows/Unix/etc.  In part, this is because the
cost of DB2 UDB (and other OS/400 functions) is factored into the system cost
(ie no free lunch :).  However, in terms of "total cost of ownership", the
iSeries compares well with other platforms.  That is, integration increases
the initial cost, but can reduce cost over the timespan the system is in
use.  Here is a study with more detail:
