 reliable auto-start

hi there,

we are trying to figure out if db2 will work for us in our enviroment,
and one of the things we're having problems with is getting the server
to auto-start in a usable manner.

the main problem is that we can't figure out how to have the db2jd also
auto start, and without it the server is unavailable ( for our purposes
).

nothing in the docs seems to talk about this at all.  the db2jstrt has
zero options, so i don't think anything can be done there.  we've tried
playing with the rc.db2 file, but without any luck.  when we add:

    su - db2inst1 db2jstrt

all that gets printed out is:

sqllib/bin/db2jstrt: sqllib/bin/db2jstrt: cannot execute binary file

doing these two steps manually ( the su - db2inst1 and then db2jstrt
) works fine though, the program runs and there the db2jd process is
active.

there appears to be no db2jstrt equivalent in the
/usr/IBMdb2/V7.1/instance/ directory, which is where the rc.db2 script
launches the db2istrt program from.

the documentation is alarmingly devoid of any help.  every reference to
db2jd i can find simply says that you need to start the agent by issuing
the db2jstrt command.  but i can't imagine that there is no way to have
this auto-started.

please help.

I get the same thing.  However, if you try the proper syntax for su, it works
fine:

su - db2inst1 -c db2jstrt

Put this into your rc.db2, or in any other /etc/init.d/rc.d script as
appropriate.
